Museum: Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington from May 2nd - August 2nd, 2014

Foreword: 

Relics: Visions of Magic explores a select few of the artists that have helped create the greatest trading card game of all time. Magic: the Gathering began in 1993, and has grown to about 12 million players.  The unique artwork on over 13,000 magic cards has been created by a collaboration of over 500 artists.  Please enjoy some of our selected pieces from over the past 20 years.

Visual Design

Production and Page Format

• Trim Size 15” x 10”
• Horizontal Format
• The long horizontal format will work with multiple decent sized pictures on the right side.  Also, there could be text with an image or two columns of text.  The size is coffee table book. 
• The advantages to this size is having multiple large size images next to each other to give it a gallery feel.  The images will have room to breathe.  
• The book will be glossy

Typography

• There will be 2 typefaces 
• First Typeface is for articles and captions
• The second typeface will be for the titles and intro, which will be more decorative.
• Serif
• Color of type will be black
• The type will complement the imagery and help bring the feel of the Magic the Gathering by invoking a scroll, old world feel. 

Grid Systems

• Margins will all be 3p0
• Gutter is 1p0
• There will be 16 columns per page
• The width for the intro text will be 25p0, the width for the article text will be 18p0 in two columns
• The gutter between text and images will be 6p2

Imagery

• The imagery will be in CMYK
• The images will be illustrations
• There will be margins around the images with captions / quotes.
• The images will be fairly large, so there will only be 1-2 per page.  If there are two, they will be side by side. 
• The imagery sets the tone for a colorful, playful book that has an old world feel with colorful artwork.
