Hruzek: Brief and Mood Boards

The exhibition content will include color photography done by Stephanie Schulz of dilapidated structures including houses and extend to broken down vehicles. It will be shown in the Menil in Houston as I think the atmosphere of the museum and surrounding nicer homes would create interesting juxtaposition.

The intended audience for the museum would be around the ages of 20s into 30s. Through experiencing this exhibition, I would like the audience to leave with a renewed interest in paying attention the surrounding environment and all the forgotten or left behind buildings.

I chose the color palette because I feel it compliments the color photography well while bringing attention to the grittiness. I feel the imagery here works well together with similar formal compositions and horizontal format. The type also follows the horizontal compositions and the asymmetry found in the photography.
The color palette draws from the cooler tones of the images and contrasts the bright red with cooler, calmer blues. Through the type, I attempted to accomplish the placement of flaking away paint to further hint at the content of the exhibition. The imagery all has more vertical movement bringing it together even with different orientations. The images also strongly display the effects of nature on man made forgotten structures.

This color palette is more subtle and muted so as not to distract from the numerous colors in the photography. It emphasizes the natural hues found. The type plays off the mass of the building in the composition of the photos. The imagery focuses on the multiple buildings torn up by various causes of nature or lack of attention by humans.

Young: Brief and Mood Boards

My exhibition is going to showcase the history of old traveling and big top circuses, focusing on vintage advertisements and posters. I imagine this exhibition taking place somewhere like the Smithsonian; a place that showcases history as well as art exhibitions. The intended audience would be the general public. The exhibition should keep the fun and imagination that a viewer experiences when actually at a circus; ideally with small interactive areas for children and other viewers.

This first mood board sticks closer to the typical modern colors associated with the circus. Bright reds, yellows, and oranges being the focus; giving a warm sense of fun and excitement.

The second mood board is a more subdued version of the typical colors. These are more pastel and have a softer feel while maintaining a more vintage look.

The last mood board is subdued colors as well but has a more earthy look to it. This one is kept simple and lighter than the other two.

Hello Halftones will be the newest exhibition at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. The show is centered around the halftones, those tiny dots that were originally created for the print publication industry but have become so much more. Today, halftones are used in fine art, posters, and magazines not only for their usefulness, but for their beauty. Halftones have become more than the image that they create, they have become art themselves. This exhibit will cover the short history of the halftone image, its usage in the pop art movement, and it's many uses today. The show opening event will be Friday, May 10th, 2013 at 7:00pm on the dot.

Mood Board #1 - Edgy
Mood Board #2 - Playful
Mood Board #3 - Refined

I briefly included and discussed the different possibilities of the exhibit themes in the creative brief:

The exhibit, Prismatic, will be taking place at the Palm Springs Art Museum in California. This exhibit will showcase contemporary colored-glass art work. Not only will there be many glass panel pieces but there will also be large glass sculptures placed in the center of the rooms. Through descriptions of the art pieces, people will learn or have a better understanding on how glass art is made and what many glass work artists try to accomplish when creating an art piece. It is also highly hopeful that the spectators, when leaving the exhibit, will have a greater appreciation of abstract glass art work.

The type of audience that will be targeted to attend Prismatic will be based on the set theme or mood of the exhibit. For instance, if the exhibit will revolve around the idea of being playful and entertaining children, then it would be wise to focus on marketing the exhibit to families and elementary schools. (Of course, safety precautions would have to be strongly considered when designing the exhibit.) However, if the atmosphere of the exhibit will be refinement, elegance, and grace, then the targeted audience would be anyone who do very much enjoy a quiet night out in the city and are roughly between the ages of thirty and fifty. People who have an open mind and especially those who are in their twenties would be strongly encouraged to attend Prismatic if it is planned for the word, “edgy,” to be kept in mind when walking around the exhibit. The color scheme, art works, and the typography of the title will play a large part in establishing the mood of Prismatic

*Additional Note: The concept of the #7 thumbnail sketch will be used in the exhibit title.

My exhibition is will be based on the artist Chad Wys. He is based out of Chicago Illinois, and does art that ranges from ready-mades to digital to photography. I have not yet picked which style of his I want to show, but all of them are interesting and different. The exhibition will take place at the OMOA-Arthouse in Austin, which features a wide range of contemporary artists working in many different styles and mediums. The audience will range from 20’s-mid 30’s.  They will be able to experience the unique and experimental feel that the pieces have.
