Laurel Isaacs: Mood Boards

Glimpses: Visions of Magic is an exhibition featuring fantasy artwork from the trading card game Magic: The Gathering. The exhibition will showcase a few prominent artists that helped create the 13,000 unique artwork for the cards. Glimpses will be a feature exhibit at the Experience Music Project Museum in Seattle, Washington. Wizards of the West Coast, the company behind Magic, is located right outside of Seattle.  The museum is focused on pop culture and has many similar exhibitions, including the upcoming Fantasy: Worlds of Myth and Magic.
The exhibition is targeted at fans of fantasy and science fiction movies and games, ranging in age from 15 to 30.  The audience will get to see these normally tiny prints on a large scale and appreciate the detail and uniqueness of each piece of artwork. They will have the opportunity to learn about the artists involved in Magic, and leave with feelings of wonder and inspiration.

The first mood board is for an exhibition that will be very colorful and focus on women characters in Magic: The Gathering artwork.   The colors will be pulled straight from the artwork. The title, Glimpses: Visions of Magic, will be wispy and smokey, swirling colors forming the letters.  The type will a reflection of the beautiful fantasy artwork that will be displayed in this exhibit.

The second idea is to focus on land and animals within the Magic world. The color palette will be natural and calm, supporting the serene lands from Magic.  I have two ideas for the type style.  The first idea is to have wood that is burnt, revealing the art beneath.  The bottom part, Visions of Magic will be written in the ash.  The second idea is to have the type made out of large stones with cracks in them.  The stones
will be covered in moss.  Either way, the type will be from an element in nature.

The final idea is to show some of the struggles of light and dark in Magic.  From Angels to Demons,  the exhibit will showcase the extremes within the world.  The color palette is inspired by the colors of the artwork; blood, death, and light. The type will be made of smoke, wispy and dark.
