Bullard: Exhibition Title
Here are the idea that I want to keep using font called Tiresias because we (deaf people) have the habit to watching closed captions. The company who used that fonts always appear on the tv screen since 70's. So I want to keep that as traditional like part of our history.
I am playing with shadows to come out either behind the sign language fonts or front of sign language.
The reason why I choose this art of sign language because Indian used that their sign language was appear from the past until present. Why did the native Americans develop a sign language? Indian Sign Language, also known as Plains Sign Language, was developed by Indian society to meet a need for clear communication between tribes that spoke different languages. It had nothing whatsoever to do with hearing loss. It was used only by Indians in the Plains. The Indian want to show clear picture were painted on the frame or wall to understand what they trying to have communication to other people.
Other reason that deaf people choose that sign language for their communication when we have hearing loss but it is nothing compare to Indian's. It is other way to have communication with sign language to show the picture into by our sign language. When deaf people start to sign language, it is like they're painting the picture for people what that person trying to tell. It is where the idea come from to use sign language on the painting so people get idea what the sign language transfer into artwork.
