Introductions: Williams

Hello everyone, my name is Christian A. Williams and I'm a Senior in the Communication Design program with an expected graduation date of December 2013. I'm very excited to finish the remainder of my coursework, but also enthusiastic to learn additional skills to add to my repertoire as a designer.

Something about myself that I take great pride in outside of being a designer is my music. I am a rapper and it's something I'd consider myself to be fairly good at. I'm a bit old school in the fact that I enjoy making songs that have meaning and a message (unlike much of what you hear in modern rap). Being successful in that is my dream, but as a realist my goal is to attain my degree and work toward my goal of establishing myself in the graphic design industry. Once I graduate I'll be able to re-focus on that and I feel my degree will afford me opportunities to work in locations, such as New York or California, that will also allow me to position myself to continue reaching for my dream. Here's a little something I did awhile back. If you listen I hope you enjoy.

As far as typographical things go I enjoy type most when it's used in unconventional ways. I know in this course we'll learn to use type in projects that are probably more professional and corporate based (which I really do want to learn) but I enjoy custom type solutions and kinetic typography. Those are skills I admire and wish to continue to learn more about as well. Here's a link to an article on PSD Tuts Plus that has some really nice custom type solutions created for various albums over the years:
50 Years of Typography in Album Covers

As far as kinetic type goes this is probably one of the more interest samples I've come across over the years. It includes a lot of type faces that are quite recognizable. Enjoy! I look forward to a wonderful summer session.
